Crystal Lowe
Fashion Designer
Co-founder and creator of HERStory
Hello, my name is Crystal Lowe, co-founder and creator of HERstory, currently residing in Los Angeles County, California. Before creating HERstory, I was ill-equipped with the knowledge and wisdom I am acquiring now, which is pursuing my ultimate passions and dreams. I am 28 years old, with a background in fashion designing and merchandising and currently furthering my education in paralegal, to assist the movement of HERstory for legal mentoring and resources.
Years prior, I use to ask, “Why me? What did I do to deserve this?” I graduated from The Art Institute. I was pursing my dreams of being a Fashion Designer and owning my own clothing line. This was supposed to be the happiest time of my life, but instead, I was depressed, scared and looking over my shoulder. Most moments were spent thinking I would be hurt again. I was a 20 year old victim of rape. My “friend” or so I thought, had drugged and raped me. The act damaged me, took my virginity and left me with shame.
I felt I was alone, left to carry this burden by myself. I come from a very loving family, however in efforts to not get them off track in their new relationship with the Lord and back to worldly ways, I decided not to share what had happened to me. And besides, what if they didn’t believe me, what would I do then? All the questions, the insecurities, and the pain; I continued to push it deep down inside of me and it continued to tear me apart, mentally and spiritually. I questioned if living was worth it.
I started attending services at True Love Worship Center International. One night at a bible study, after 4 years of silence, I gave my testimony. I was afraid but relieved. I felt like I was in a place where I would receive help. My healing process would be slow, but at least it had started. Sometime passed, and I was still attending True Love Worship International, when I was chosen to be in a ministry. The ministry is lead and empowered by Pastor Desiree Jackson and named Ladies in Destiny. We are a strong group of women who are positive, supportive and non-judgmental. Being a part of this ministry has helped me to realize the importance of community.
It has now become my goal to help women (young and old) who have been victims of rape. Within a six month period, I empower them through daily inspiration. I cover areas such as: anger, controlling your emotions, and the various issues one may acquire as a result of rape. I want to give hope and help to rebuild their self-confidence. God created each of us beautiful. As a “coming out/ breaking the silence” celebration, at the end of the six months, these women are showcased in a fashion show. The fashion show is a public proclamation of: “I was once a victim, but now a victor!”
So, now you know the story of Crystal Lowe. I beat the odds; and I am determined to help others do the same! I'm walking in my destiny with joy and love. I’m pursuing my dream of being a fashion designer, empowering ladies, and happily married with true love.
